I live just outside of Swindon where I am surrounded by brilliant subject matter: the dogs I see being walked every day, friends meeting for sociable shopping, wonderful people who work so hard to keep it all from falling down, how do they spend time when they get a chance to play? These observational fancies are iced with my own wishful thinking; I paint the clothes I’d like to wear and the cake I’d eat as I walked my dream dog back to my fantasy home. But look too, for the puzzle box that refuses to open and the beautiful cake about to become cat food. Sod’s law, as ever, is present.
My painting style is influenced by Northern European painters; Breughel, Cranach and Gheeraerts, but my approach to the painted “story” is more Mel Brooks and Dave Allen.
